Spring/Easter Mosaics

Materials Needed-

Large sheet of poster board or cardboard

Old crayons, assorted colors

Glue (optional)

Trace or draw a simple Spring or Easter picture onto a piece of poster board or cardboard.

Discussion- Discuss the significance of the picture chosen.  (For a flower, discuss with your child what a flower needs to grow.  For a butterfly, talk about metamophosis or butterfly migration.)

Discussion- Mosaics.  Mosaic is the art of decorating a surface with pictures and patterns made of little pieces of stone, glass or tiles of different colours.   Mosaics were first used in Rome in the 5th or 4th century BC!

Remove all paper from old crayons.

Parents- Cut crayons into pieces ¼ to ½ inches long.

Stand crayon pieces on end and glue them to picture, filling areas in solid with colors to match those used in picture.  If you don’t have glue, or choose not to use glue, you can rearrange crayon pieces as desired; or use for another picture.

Display your crayon mosaic.
